Counselling for Depression

What is counselling for depression?

Counselling is a form of talking therapy that gives you time and space to explore your emotions with the support of a qualified therapist. Our Derby and Derbyshire counselling service offers a confidential, non-judgmental environment where you can talk openly about how you’re feeling.

If you’re experiencing low mood, sadness, hopelessness, or emotional overwhelm, counselling can help you better understand your thoughts and feelings and begin to find a way forward.

Rather than giving advice, your therapist will help you reflect on what you’re going through and support you to develop your own strategies for coping and healing.

Counselling can support a wide range of difficulties, including:

  • Depression or anxiety
  • Grief, loss, or life-changing events
  • Relationship issues or breakdown
  • Low self-esteem or overwhelming emotions
  • Living with a long-term physical health condition

How can counselling help?

  • It offers a secure space to talk, especially if you feel like you have no one else to confide in
  • Helps you understand and accept difficult feelings instead of avoiding them
  • Builds emotional awareness and healthier coping strategies
  • Can improve your overall mental health and boost long-term resilience

Many people find that simply being heard in a safe environment can be an empowering and healing experience.

What happens in counselling sessions?

During your sessions, your therapist will listen and guide you through conversations to help you make sense of what you’re going through. There’s no pressure to talk about anything you’re not ready to share.

Depending on what suits you best, counselling may be offered in person, via video, over the phone, or through supported digital therapy.
