Frequently asked questions

It’s completely natural to have questions before reaching out for mental health support. We’ve answered some of the most common ones below, but if you’re unsure about anything else, feel free to contact us.

Is this service free?

Yes, our service is free to use and fully funded by the NHS.

Am I eligible for the service?

You can access Derby and Derbyshire Talking Therapies if you’re aged 16 or over and registered with a GP in Derby or Derbyshire. Once you refer yourself, we’ll arrange an initial assessment to understand how we can best support you.

I haven’t been diagnosed with a mental health condition. Can I still access support?

Absolutely. You don’t need a diagnosis to use our service. If you're feeling low, anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed, we’re here to help before things get worse.

How long will I wait to start therapy?

Waiting times vary depending on the therapy type, but our NHS targets are:

  • 75% of people start therapy within 6 weeks of referral
  • 95% start therapy within 18 weeks
  • What if I need urgent help?

We’re not a crisis service. If you need immediate support, please visit our Urgent Help page for emergency contact details and services that can assist you right away.

    How do I refer myself?

You can refer yourself in whichever way suits you best:

  • Use our digital referral assistant (the quickest option)
  • Fill in an online referral form
  • Call us directly to speak with our team
  • Ask your GP to refer you on your behalf

  • All contact options can be found on our Getting Support page.

Will my information be kept confidential?

Yes, your information is treated confidentially. We only share your details with other healthcare professionals involved in your care—unless you tell us not to. We don’t share information with employers, housing teams, or family members without your permission, unless we’re legally required to for safety reasons. You can view our privacy policy here.
